Beschrijving

Maleïsche anhydride is kleurloos kristal met een sterke scherpe geur. Het vriespunt is 52.8 ºC, het kookpunt is 202 ºC, en het is gemakkelijk te sublimeren. Het wordt voornamelijk bereid door oxidatie van n-butaan of buteen in benzeen of C4-fractie. Het is de grondstof voor onverzadigde polyesterproductie en organische synthese.

Kleurloos orthogonaal aciculair kristal of wit kristallijn poeder. Oplosbaar in water, aceton, benzeen, chloroform en andere organische oplosmiddelen. Oplosbaarheid in de volgende oplosmiddelen bij 25 ºC (gloog): Aceton 227, ethylacetaat 112, chloroform 52.5 I benzeen 50 I tolueen 23.4; O-xyleen 19.4; koolstoftetrachloride 0 60; petroleumether 0.25. Los op in alcohol om ester te vormen. Oplosbaar in dioxaan. Sublimatie door warmte. In geval van hoge hitte, open vuur of contact met oxidatiemiddel kan dit verbranding veroorzaken. Corrosief. Hydrolyseer langzaam in koud water om maleïnezuur te vormen. Contact met sterk oxiderende stoffen kan verbranding en explosie veroorzaken. Als de temperatuur hoger is dan 66 ºC, zal polymerisatie plaatsvinden in contact met aminen of alkali metalen.
