Chapter 1 Outline and Installation
1. Inside Device Appearance
1.1
Instruction:
1) The main loop wiring terminal: connect system three phase power
2) Button bits: to pull out the display board. When pull it out, please press the security card in the plastic shell, and open the button bits. You can't take the display board out if pull out directly from the outside button bits.
3) Technical parameters: To mark the technical parameter of the motor, such as the model, voltage class, power etc
4) Motor wring terminal: Connect motor three-phase line. When motor is starting, power supply flow direction is: system power →main loop wring terminal →soft starter→ Motor wiring terminal → motor
5) Bypass wiring terminals: Connect bypass contactors, when motor bypass is running, the power supply flow is: the system power supply →bypass contactor → bypass wiring terminals→ soft starter→ motor wiring terminals → motor
6) Display panel: the display interface and human-machine interface of the soft starter are independent unit, can be embedded in the plastic panel, and also installed in the cabinet body
7) Plastic panel: It is a part of the chassis, installed in the metal chassis. Use flame retardant ABS material
8) The warning label: It has Chinese and English versions, used for warning user's operation
9) The wiring terminal cover: There is a control loop wiring terminal inside
Note:
1) The appearance of different devices is different
2) There is only one installation type of display panel: built-in in the plastic shell or external installation, when external installation, the installation position on the plastic shell is filled by the non-function display panel.
3) External bypass contactor is not a part of the soft starter, users need buy it additional.
Warning:
1) When built-in the display panel in the plastic shell, you can't directly remove it from the button bits because of the anti-theft design, if pull it out directly, it will cause damage.
2) The installation, electrical wiring and setting of the soft starters, must be operated by the technical staff
2. Type instruction
For example, WGQ8-3075-A-P-Z presents that this equipment is suitable for the soft starter of 380V 75KW.
Routine starting: Some machines, such as bow propeller, compressor, hoisting machine, centrifugal pump, conveyer belt and elevator, the mode can be chose by motor rated power. For example, Model WGQ8-3075 soft starter should be selected for the motor with the rated power of 75KW, with the compressor as the load.
Heavy load starting: Some machines, such as centrifuge, crusher, mixer, grinding machine and stirring mill etc, the type selection of them can be selected based on 120% of the rated power. For example, Model WGQ8-3160 soft starter should be selected for the motor with the rated power of 132KW, with the crusher as the load.

4. Installation
4.1 Soft starter installation
4.1.1. Acceptance and un-packing check of the device
When the user receives the device, check the packaging, the front of the soft starter should be facing up.
Check the soft starter and check whether the soft-starter model is the same as your order
Check whether there is any damage in transport, if any damage, please immediately contact the transport company or our company
4.1.2. Storage
Please keep the soft starter in the packing box before installation
4.1.3. Installation
WGQ8 soft starter has 5 installation sizes, choose the accordingly installation size according to voltage class and power class.
If soft starter is installed in the cabinet, it must be mounted vertically, and ensure adequate ventilation
4.2. Soft starter cabinet installation
4.2.1. Receiving and Inspection of Equipment
When users get the soft starter cabinet, the cabinet should be placed upright.
Check the device and to verify whether the soft-starter model is the same as your orders
Check the soft starter and auxiliary electrical equipment, whether the installation is solid.
Check whether there is any damage in transit, such as cabinet deformation, scratches and other internal components broken, if any damage, please immediately contact the transport or our company.

Chapter 2 Function Description
1. Introduction
WGQ8 intelligent soft starter is a newly designed motor starting device which adopts advanced power electronics, micro-processing technology and modern control theory. In addition to start and stop function, it also has several advanced motor protection functions.
Soft starter need bypass contactor to run, but the device is without built-in bypass contactor. In case of emergency, the user can start the motor directly by bypass contactor (please note the starting current)
Display panel is convenient for user to operate, with clear text display, and has Chinese and English version for users to choose.
Four ways to control the soft starter:
Keyboard Control (Local)
Start and stop terminal input control
Programmable input terminal control
Soft start, whose voltage is 380V, power is over 90KW or voltage is 660V, power is over 160KW (corresponding to the device shape code Z3, Z4, Z5) is equipped with cooling fans. And equip 2 fans for the device whose outline code are Z3, Z4, equip 3 fans for the device whose outline code is Z5.
Cooling fan start and cool coercively when the soft starter is starting. When the device is running, there is no start and stop operation, the fan will stop in 30 minutes. If there is start and stop operation, count based on the last operation, the fan will stop in 30 minutes.

Chapter 3 Electrical wiring
1.Working principle
WGQ8 intelligent soft starter adopts three pairs of anti-parallel thyristor which connected in series in the stator loop, making use of thyristor switching function, adopt microprocessor control the trigger angles, to control the motor input voltage, reaching the purpose of soft start. When the motor is started and the motor current drops to normal level, start bypass switching by controlling the bypass signal, and the motor is in parallel to the grid. The schematic is as follows:

When programmable output, pre-set programmable output type by the menu "Programmable Output Type"
Terminals 6,7 are normally closed contact, terminals 7,8 are normally open contact.
4-20mA transmitter output signal is the average of three-phase current value, when running current equal to the rated current, it is about 8.5mA, transmitter current output value can be calculated in accordance with the formula. and is real-time transmitter output value, is the rated current set for the device
When set the menu "control type" with two-line remote control, J1-11 and J1-14 closed (self-holding) means start, and disconnect means stop, J1-12 are standby. When set with three-wire remote control, J1-11 and J1-14 is closed (self restored) to start, J1-12 and J1-14 are closed (self restored) to stop. Two-wire remote control need self-sustaining, three-wire is instantaneous signal.
Programmable input can be set by the menu item "Programmable input type" , can be set to different input value. Such as invalid, start, point start, stop, rush stop, reset, external fault etc. Used for controlling the soft starter externally.
To improve system anti-jamming performance, you'd better get the device power supply AC220V additionally, if taken directly from the three-phase power, please detach it from the bypass contactor power lines
Chapter IV Human-machine interface
1. Operation Panel
The panel is composed by the LCD display, LED light and simple keyboard. Panel is shown as below:

LCD display is the backlit 8 × 4 Chinese character LCD module, keyboard is composed by six touch keys: "SHFT", "∧", "∨", "MENU / PRG", "RUN", "STOP / RST". LED indicator indicates status and signals of the device.

Instruction: When protection function act, the "FAULT" signal indicator on the panel is on, and LCD display shows the type and parameters of fault. If want to know more, you can select "Event Record" in the main menu to view the sequence of events.

2.Interface Display
The local display and data query function of the device are showed by the LCD display, users can set it by the keyboard. When the device is powered, the display board parameters initializes, initialization interface is as follows:

Both of the display board and master controller are storing the menu parameters, when initialization is complete, the device detects the main board menu parameters and display panel menu parameters automatically, if these two parameters are the same, it enter standby screen directly, if not, it will jump to the following interface

Users need make the two menus parameters same, if the operation is error, the menu parameter will error, so you need input the password when setting the parameter. If the parameter go by the main board parameter, select "Main board parameters → Display board", press "MENU / PRG" and input the correct password, the main board parameter will pass to display board, and replace the display board parameters.
Users can reference to this upload and download function, and need not to set parameter afresh when change main board or display.
When the main board parameters and display panel parameters are the same, it will switch to the normal standby screen automatically. There are totally 5 display interfaces when the device is running. And they are showing as follows:

3.Menu instruction
Do not modify parameter when the device is starting or running, it should be modified in the standby mode. Please press the "MENU / PRG" key to enter the menu, and it shows "parameter browse" and "parameter modification", then press "∧" or "∨" to select, press "MENU / PRG" to enter. The sub-menu of "parameter browse" and "parameter modification" are totally the same, "parameter browse" can only browse the parameter, but can't be modified, while "parameter modification" can modify the parameter, but you must input the modification password first, then enter the sub-menu
After modification, press "STOP/RST" to exit, if no operation, the procedure will return to the former menu in 20 seconds automatically.
3.1.Menu operation
When it is standby, press "MENU/PRG" to enter the following interface:

"parameter browse" and "parameter modification" have the same content, "parameter browse" can be entered when it is ready, start and running, but you can only browse the parameter and can't modify it. "parameter modification" can be entered only in ready status, but the parameter can be modified.
3.1.1. The first class menu
Press "MENU / PRG" to select "parameter browse" or "parameter modification", then enter the first class menu. Users can enter "parameter browse" directly, and you need press a password to enter "parameter modification". Then elect the sub-menu by "∧", "∨". After choosing the accordingly first class menu, press "MENU / PRG" to enter the second class menu directly

3.1.2. The second Class menu
Select the sub-menu by "∧", "∨" in the first class menu, such as "Start Control" menu, press "MENU / PRG" to enter the second level menu. If the second level menu need set, press the "MENU / PRG" key to enter the third level menu directly.

3.2.Parameter modification
If you want to modify the parameters, firstly select the submenu by "∧", "∨" key, then press "MENU / PRG" to enter, select the parameters which to be modified by "SHFT" key, press "∧", "∨" key to modify the corresponding number, when complete modification, press "MENU / PRG" key to save. To modify the next parameter, repeat the above operation, to exit, press "STOP / RST" to return to the above menu

. Options →Setting Pe: rated power can not be modified.
. Options→ Control Mode. There are seven control modes: Keyboard control, two-wire remote control, three-wire remote control, PC machine control, keyboard+ three-wire remote control, keyboard + PC, three-wire remote control+ PC. Select them by setting, and some of the item names in the menu are shortening
. Options →In Mode: There are seven input types: Disable, Start, Stop, Q Stop, Point, Reset, Fault, select them by setting,
. Options →Out Mode: There are eight types of output : Disable, Ready, Start, Run, RDY+STR, RDY+RUN, STR+RUN, R+S+RUN. Select them by setting, and some of the item names in the menu are shortening
. Options →4-20mA Adjust, when the motor current is 0, the output value corresponding to 4mA calibration.
. Options →Min Gap Time: It means the time interval between the first start and the second start of soft starter. If the time is less than the setting value, the start is not allowed until the interval time meets the setting value.
. Options→ Max Gap Time: Means the time from the beginning of the start to bypass, starting time is too long may be caused by overload of motor or parameters are unreasonable.
. Protect →I2t Overload: 1: K = 17; 2: K = 34; 3: K = 80; 4: K = 160; the starting current value of inverse time protection is max {1.14Ie, (1 + EP parameter) × Ie}.
. Input output→ output: 000001. Fan out put JP1;000010. .fault output JP2;000100. programmable output JP3;001000. bypass output JP4;010000.4~20 output, When in test, output is 10mA;100000 pulse triggering output.
Input and output menu is only used in circuit board debug, please don't operate this function when use the device.
. Equip State: means the device ID, software version.
Note:
The voltage level of above system is 380V, the parameter range of 660V device menu is different from that.
4. Display board connection
Display board is an independent part, which connected to internal device by communication connection the connection line is standard networking. The display has two connection types: one is embedded in the plastic shell, that is to say, the cable comes out directly from the device, and connect to the display board. The other is installed on the outside of the device(for example, on the cabinet door), the network cable comes out from the communication switch interface which is on the left of the plastic shell, and then connect to the display board.
After connecting the cable, the power supply light is on, running lights are flashing, which means it is running normal.
Check the display board after it is powered, if the parameter is not the same as the parameter of main control circuit board, it will show the parameter is not the same, and exit menu 4.5. The operator can pass the main board parameter to the display board, or pass the display board parameter to the main control board. You can use the transfer function of the parameter when change the display board or main control board, and needn't re-set the parameter.
Chapter Five Start-stop Control
1.Slope Start
Menu path:
When motor is starting, soft starter output voltage, and the voltage increase to "initial voltage" rapidly, and then increase output voltage according to "start time" until it is started.
Slope Start is suitable for occasions such as high inertia load, or not so strict for start current, but strict to start stability.
Slope Start mode can greatly reduce the starting shock and mechanical stress, the greater the initial value, the greater the initial torque and the starting instant impact, the length of starting process has something to do with the set start time and load weight, and it has nothing to do with times current limit
Slope Start parameters:
Initial voltage: setting range is 30~80%Ue, initial value 40%
Rise time: setting range is 1~120s,initial value:30s
1. Limit start
Menu path:
When start the motor, the motor current increase smoothly to the set value, and maintain a steady output current, make the motor accelerate gradually. When the motor is closed to the rated speed, motor current decrease rapidly to normal running current, the start is completed
Limit start is used for occasion which is strict for start current, especially the grid capacity is too small, need to limit start capacity. Because of limit current, the over load motor can't accelerate, and can't start, so limit start is suitable for occasions which current load is less than 70%Ie when normal running.
The actual starting time of Limit start has something to do with times of limit current, the larger the limit current times, the shorter the starting time, or, it will be longer.

3.Kick start
Menu path:
In some overloaded situations, because of the impact of static friction, the motor need a large torque to start, and Slope Start can not start the motor, then you can choose Kick start. When starting, add a fixed high voltage to the motor, and keep for a limit time, to overcome the static friction to start, then start the motor by slop start.
Kick start is used for high static friction load
Kick start parameters:
Kick voltage: Set the range 50 ~ 80% Ue, initial value: 70%
Kick Time: Set the range 100 ~ 3000ms, initial value: 400ms
Initial voltage: set the range 30 ~ 80% Ue, initial value: 40%
Rise time: set the range 1 ~ 120s, the initial value: 30s
4.Slop steady start

When start the motor, increase the motor output voltage to steady value by Slope Start, and keep it to the set time, then increase the voltage by Slope Start until the start is complete
Slope steady start is used for high moment of inertia, and small friction load occasions.
Parameters of slope steady start:
Initial voltage: setting range is 30 ~ 80% Ue, initial value: 40%
Rise time: Setting range is 1 ~ 120s, the initial value: 30s
Steady voltage: Set the range to 30 ~ 80% Ue, initial value: 60%
Steady time: Range is 1 ~ 120s, the initial value: 5s
5.Steady start mode
Menu path:
When starting the motor, the motor output voltage and rise to the setting value steady, and make the output voltage steady. When the motor speed is closed to the rated speed, motor current rapidly decreased to the normal running current, the start is complete.
Steady start equals to low voltage start, it is suitable for light load occasion, if the load is too heavy, the motor fail to start normally.
The time of Steady start has something to do with the setting steady voltage, the higher the voltage, the shorter the starting time, the lower the voltage, the longer the starting time.

Steady voltage: Set range is 30 ~ 100% Ue, initial value: 60%
6.Point start
Menu path:
Point start starts by keyboard, press "RUN" key, motor start to run until start process is complete. When stop press "RUN" button, start process stop immediately.
Point start adopts manual control, can control stop time artificially. So point start mode usually used to confirm the running direction of motor or start in a short time, and not used in normal start condition.
Parameters of point start
Point start voltage: Range is 30 ~ 80% Ue, initial value: 60%

Chapter VI Protection
WGQ8 intelligent soft starter has a sound protection function, it can make the motor running safely. When the running is fault, the corresponding fault type and fault value will bounce, you can press "Stop / Reset" button to reset the signals. The device can save 9 groups of fault records, users can enter "fault record" menu to inquiry.
1.High voltage
Running voltage exceeds setting over-voltage value, and last to the delay time, and high voltage protection is enable, so high voltage fault trip, bounce high voltage protection, and record accordingly. If the voltage reduced to the value which is less than high voltage value during the delay time, it will revert to the protection.
High-voltage protection is enable, and high-voltage protection function is enable
Parameters of high voltage protection:
High voltage parameter: setting range is 380 ~ 500V, initial value: 420V
High voltage delay time: Setting range is 0 ~ 240s, the initial value: 10s
2. Low voltage
Running voltage is less than the set low voltage value, if last to delay time, and low voltage protection control is enable, and low voltage fault trip, bounce low voltage protection information, and record accordingly. If the increase of voltage exceeds low voltage parameter during the delay time, revert to the protection.
Low voltage protection control is disable, and low voltage protection function exit.
Parameters of low voltage protection:
Low voltage parameter: the range is 0 ~ 380V, initial value: 350V
Low voltage delay time: setting range is 0 ~ 240s, the initial value: 10s
